1 story1 NEWAnthropic Targets 10 GW AI Compute by 2027 to Match OpenAI AI Sep 18, 5:40 AM EDT 20/12
Anthropic told investors it seeks roughly 5 GW of available computing capacity by the end of 2026, an increase from 1.5 GW last year. The company targets 10 GW by the end of 2027 to align its infrastructure trajectory with OpenAI. To secure this capacity, Anthropic agreed to pay SpaceX $1.25B per month through May 2029 and partnered with Amazon for up to 5 GW.
A potential $10B 2 year compute lease with Meta is currently under negotiation. Anthropic and OpenAI are pursuing smaller data center deals of 20 to 30 MW across the U.S., U.K., and Nordics to obtain usable capacity faster, according to CNBC. These efforts join larger projects, such as Anthropic's $45B agreement for 460 MW in West Virginia, as JLL forecasts AI inference will overtake training in data center share by 2027.
