The Canadian AI firm Cohere and Germany's Aleph Alpha entered a binding agreement Wednesday to consolidate their business operations. The unified organization will operate under the Cohere name and expand its workforce to more than 1,000 employees across North America and Europe. This merger establishes the first foundational AI model developer anchored on both sides of the Atlantic.
Chief Executive Aidan Gomez said the partnership aims to meet global demand for secure frontier AI, allowing governments and enterprises to maintain control over their technology. The collaboration focuses on providing a tool ecosystem that avoids a choice between high performance and technical security for its global clients.
