Developers can now run Claude Code, Codex, and LangGraph agents on a new managed runtime that consolidates sandboxing, inference, and tool providers. DigitalOcean's Managed Agents service, currently in public preview, handles runtime and tools on a single bill and supports more than 75 open and proprietary models. The platform uses isolated environments that pause during inactivity to eliminate charges for idle compute.

The system runs each agent session inside a Firecracker microVM to preserve state and allow sessions to resume in 305 milliseconds. This billing model reduces the cost for a 2 vCPU agent with 25% utilization to about $0.06 per hour, compared to $0.126 for full allocated capacity. An integrated Action Gateway provides access to over 16,000 tools from 500 providers, utilizing a discovery system that matched agent intent with 99.3% accuracy in internal tests.
