Francois Fleuret stated the academic peer review model is "dead" given the current scale of the submissions.

The aggregate volume of the first 14 years of the conference is now smaller than a single annual submission window. This surge indicates a level of research output that Fleuret describes as a system whose "corps is moving only because so many moving things are attached to it," suggesting the traditional process no longer functions.
