OpenAI Launches Astra for Law With 230 Million URL Index for Elite Firms

The new legal platform integrates GPT-6 Astra with a dedicated search index that identifies authorities and supporting passages across U.S. case law, statutes, and regulations. This index covers more than 230 million URLs and is available to selected firms through Trusted Access in ChatGPT and Codex, with an API endpoint designated as gpt-6-astra-law coming soon. OpenAI collaborated with Cooley to create GO Public for drafting S-1 filings, while Sullivan & Cromwell and Ropes & Gray developed an agreement analyzer and an M&A diligence system.

Self-reported data shows the specialized index raised research correctness to 54% from 38.7% compared to GPT-6 Astra using general web search. The ecosystem includes 26 partner plugins from providers such as Thomson Reuters and Harvey, as well as 47 community plugins. The index encompasses more than 99.9% of published U.S. precedential case law and found 24% more reference cases in a test of 200 research questions.
