SpaceX Targets Data From Failed Startups to Train Grok AI Models

Internal talks at Elon Musk's space company focused on acquiring proprietary business information from distressed firms to bolster the capabilities of the Grok AI assistant, according to people familiar with the matter. The proposed acquisitions would grant SpaceX access to customer and operational datasets that are otherwise difficult to license or build at a lower cost.

This approach moves the company beyond a primary reliance on data from X and in-house AI tutors. Bloomberg reports that these discussions are still informal and may not lead to a deal, but Musk recently told employees that Grok will also be trained on internal SpaceX information. Google paid $10 million for Spirit Airlines internal business data last month after the carrier entered bankruptcy.
