A plan to create an industry-funded body for AI oversight was scrapped by President Trump after opposition from Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jensen Huang. The proposed organization would have overseen AI companies and set industry standards using a model similar to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, known as FINRA.

DeepMind chief Demis Hassabis pitched the framework to the White House, but Musk, Zuckerberg, and Huang argued the regulator would concentrate power among Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic. The decision to forgo the regulator follows direct communications between the tech leaders and the president, the Wall Street Journal reported.
