1 story1 OpenAI Claims Progress on Second Millennium Problem After Navier Stokes Proof↩︎ AI Sep 15, 8:10 PM EDT 19/12
OpenAI executive Greg Brockman announced that the company has advanced toward solving a new Millennium Prize Problem. The effort marks the second such milestone for the firm following the resolution of the Navier-Stokes existence and smoothness problem, which the internal model group solved in 88 hours using 10,000 coordinating AI agents and a proof formalized in Lean.
Theoretical computer scientist Scott Aaronson reported that several frontier AI laboratories may have already completed solutions for other outstanding mathematical problems. These entities are allegedly withholding the results to avoid a public relations backlash similar to the controversy that followed the Navier-Stokes disclosure.
