GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna arrive with API costs reduced by 50% compared to the GPT-5.6 generation, priced at $2 per 1M input and $10 per 1M output tokens for Sol, and $0.10 per 1M input and $0.50 per 1M output tokens for Luna. The models are currently rolling out to ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users.

This expansion coincides with the release of Claude Opus 5.5 and Fable 5 from Anthropic, increasing price competition for frontier intelligence. OpenAI claims GPT-6 Sol outperforms Claude Opus 5 on the AutomationBench benchmark at 9% of the cost per task, although third-party analysis from Artificial Analysis indicates performance regressions in certain knowledge work evaluations. To facilitate agentic workflows, the new models utilize improved prompt caching that provides up to 90% discounts on cached input-token reads.
