AI Jul 24, 2:20 PM EDT 224/147
OpenAI has reportedly signed onto a letter led by Nvidia and Microsoft urging policymakers to avoid premature restrictions on open-weight AI models, joining a coalition of more than 20 technology companies. The letter says open-weight models are important to U.S. technological leadership.
Nvidia, Microsoft and other companies released the effort on July 24, and separate posts later said OpenAI had signed as well. Supporters including Meta and Box argue open and closed models are not zero-sum, and that open weights drive innovation, expand options for organizations and push providers of closed models to innovate faster.
