SOC Investment Group Urges Delay of $2 Trillion Anthropic IPO Over Safety Risks↩︎

SOC Investment Group, representing union-sponsored pension funds, is requesting a postponement of the upcoming public debut of AI startup Anthropic. The group argues that a lack of clear rules for frontier AI development and recent safety concerns create risks that investors cannot properly assess. This call for a delay targets the $2 trillion initial public offering, urging a pause until government guidelines on AI deployment are established.

Anthropic confidentially filed for the offering in June and selected Nasdaq as its exchange. The company targets a 2026 IPO and recently told investors it achieved adjusted operating profit for a second straight quarter, with gross margins above 80% before training costs and revenue shares. Some investors predict the startup will reach $120 billion in annual recurring revenue by December 2026 and $360 billion by the end of 2027.
