The United Kingdom announced a plan at the UN to coordinate a global response to the security challenges of artificial intelligence. Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated that the G20 will work to develop safety standards during Britain's presidency of the group in 2027. Burnham also launched a defense partnership with the US to employ AI in detecting threats and protecting critical infrastructure from attack.

The initiative arrives as Burnham accuses Russia of conducting information warfare and vows to fight Russian disinformation. During talks with US President Donald Trump, Burnham described his objective as finding a "sweet spot" that promotes the development of AI while ensuring the technology is used safely.
