Amazon will deploy 5,000 additional Smart Delivery Glasses to drivers this year to improve navigation and package scanning. The rollout aims to put 20,000 devices in the field by the end of 2027, complemented by a $1.9 billion investment in the Delivery Service Partner program for that same year. This spending increases total program investment to $21.7 billion over eight years and targets an average driver pay of nearly $24 per hour.

The AI-powered glasses utilize computer vision to place navigation, address verification, and delivery tasks directly in a driver's field of view upon parking. These tools integrate with the Wellspring mapping system, which has cataloged 202 million parking locations, 2.8 million building entrances, and 85,000 mailrooms since 2024. Amazon is also adding AI routing that adjusts for weather and visibility to identify driving patterns associated with higher accident risks.
