All state-issued authorizations for data center development are paused in Texas after an order from Governor Greg Abbott. This directive stops the issuance of new permits to allow the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to finish an audit of the power grid.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and other state agencies cannot move forward with project approvals until the audit information is acquired. The halt is designed to identify specific risks to electricity reliability before further infrastructure expansion is permitted.
