Meta Uses Human Operators to Handle Muse AI Agent Calls

Internal posts reveal that Meta is employing human staff to simulate AI-driven phone calls for its Muse personal assistant. The company has been testing this "human concierge" system since shortly after the release of the agent's phone-calling feature to help refine safety and privacy protections before a broader rollout. Reuters reported the internal experiment on Tuesday, noting that contractors are filling technical gaps while the calling technology matures.

Some Meta employees have raised warnings that users might inadvertently share sensitive information with the third-party call-center staff. In response, Meta stated that these operators are based in the U.S. and have received "a lot of training." The company intends to provide clear disclosures to users if the feature ever leaves internal testing, as it expands Muse through partnerships with firms like Instacart to automate shopping and delivery tasks.
