Chinese artificial intelligence startup Moonshot has launched Kimi K3, an open-weight language model comprising between 2 trillion and 3 trillion parameters. The new model is now rolling out to users in Mainland China via the Kimi web platform and its command-line interface.

According to the Financial Times, Kimi K3 is expected to outperform Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.8 on key benchmark tests, though preliminary evaluations suggest it will trail the Fable model. The release comes as Moonshot pursues a funding round that values the startup at approximately $31.5 billion.
