The Horowitz Andreessen Academy will enroll roughly 50 students for a tuition-free inaugural year in San Francisco starting in Fall 2027. Launched by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and CEO Gagan Biyani, the unaccredited residential program serves as an alternative to traditional four-year degrees for high school graduates and college dropouts. The institution raised $42M from investors including Adam D'Angelo, Tobi Lütke, Tony Xu, Fidji Simo and Shyam Sankar to ensure long-term stability. Admission is based on "proof of work" and portfolios rather than grades or essays, with students receiving over $50,000 in compute credits and a $5,000 travel budget.

Founding partners for the school include OpenAI, Meta, Nvidia, Google, Anthropic, Palantir, Coinbase, Anduril, Replit and Stripe. The curriculum focuses on learning through independent and group projects and includes guest lectures from more than 200 speakers such as Sam Altman and Fei-Fei Li. Pending regulatory approval, the Academy plans to expand to a two-year program starting in 2028 that will charge tuition comparable to elite private universities.
