GlobalFoundries and Marvell Expand US AI Networking Capacity in Multiyear Deal

Chip production for silicon germanium will increase at a Burlington, Vermont, plant to support pluggable and co-packaged optics for AI data centers. GlobalFoundries and Marvell signed a multiyear pact on Sept. 17 to expand capacity for next generation optical connectivity to meet growing bandwidth demands in AI infrastructure.

The existing platform from GlobalFoundries supports 200G per lane connectivity, with a development roadmap targeting faster subsequent generations. Financial terms for the chip-capacity agreement between the manufacturer and the chip designer were not disclosed.
